The fairytale story of a Belgium fan whose fresh-faced looks landed her a L’Oreal modelling contract has turned sour after her she was outed as a big game hunter by her Facebook account.

A Facebook photo of 17-year-old Axelle Despiegelaere alongside a kill while hunting in Africa caused such an outcry that L’Oreal Belgium opted to cancel her contract just days after signing her to a deal.

The picture of the fan alongside a dead Gemsbok antelope was accompanied by a caption that read: ‘Hunting is not a matter of life or death. It’s much more important than that.’

L’Oreal, which has publicly prided itself on its animal welfare policy, had planned to use the teenager for a social media campaign including a hair tutorial.

The cosmetics giant have stated that while their contractual relationship with the attractive fan is now finished, it would not comment on whether the controversial picture was the reason behind their parting of ways.
