A barefoot child found wandering the streets of Birmingham alone last night is to be reunited with his family.
A passer-by found the young boy – who is just three years old – walking in Chesterton Road in Sparkbrook just before 10pm on Thursday.
The youngster, believed to be Somalian, was unable to inform police of his name – sparking a desperate appeal for help locating his parents.
But an hour after the appeal went out, the youngster’s distressed father called West Midlands Police to report his son missing.
Chief Inspector Ian Green said: ‘We are very relieved to be able to hand back the little boy back to his family.’
‘We will of course be investigating how the boy got out of the house and we’ll be speaking with the family.
‘We would like to thank local people and the media for their help, we really appreciate all the shares and re-tweets on social media which we know has reached hundreds of thousands of people.’
