Boy In Hospital After Collision With Police Car

A 10-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after being hit by an unmarked police car in south east London.

The youngster sustained a head injury when he was struck while crossing Plumstead High Street, near the junction with Rippolson Road, at about 3.05pm.

An ambulance crew, a duty officer and London’s air ambulance were dispatched.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The first of our medics were on the scene in six minutes.

“We treated a boy, reported to be 10 years old, for a head injury and took him to the Royal London Hospital as a priority by ground ambulance.”

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said the boy’s injuries were not serious.

“Next of kin have been informed,” the spokesman added.

“The police car was en-route to an emergency call at the time of collision.

“An investigation into the collision will be carried out by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.”

Nearby roads were closed off for nearly two hours after the crash.

A woman using the name DemeMummy on Twitter wrote: “Plumstead High St. Unmarked police car, blues & two’s blaring, 3 young boys crossing, one ended up under the car 🙁 He’s alive thank God.”

She described it as “every parent – and cop’s – worst nightmare”.
