Brave North Carolina town fights back against sun-sucking solar panels : TreeHugger

Congratulations to the town of Woodland, North Carolina! They are turning back the tide of insidious solar. They have voted for a complete moratorium on solar farms, after hearing from a retired science teacher, Jane Mann. According to the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald:

She is a retired Northampton science teacher and is concerned that photosynthesis, which depends upon sunlight, would not happen and would keep the plants from growing. She said she has observed areas near solar panels where the plants are brown and dead because they did not get enough sunlight. She also questioned the high number of cancer deaths in the area, saying no one could tell her that solar panels didn’t cause cancer.

Because, science! Her husband Bob noted also that “solar farms would suck up all the energy from the sun.” So of course, the town council had no option but to reject the solar farm, even after the company representatives tried to convince them that “The panels don’t draw additional sunlight.” Believe that and you probably believe that Americans landed on the moon.

Now to be fair and balanced to the citizens of Woodland, according to a Redditter the real concern is that solar farms don’t produce local jobs or much money for the local community. “Solar panels are now taking up the majority of the farm land, jobs are disappearing and it is becoming a ghost town because younger local residents have to move away to find employment.”

Then I go and spoil it all by finding related links that show how North Carolina banned sustainability, global warming and wind turbines, but allows opossum dropping. They are crazy down there.
