Bomb specialists have carried controlled explosions in Bristol following the discovery of a suspicious car.
Hundreds of people were also evacuated from around 460 homes in the Fishponds area after the vehicle was found in Cassell Road at 4am today.
Officers said the car smelt strongly of fuel and could be linked to ‘an ongoing dispute’.
Residents will not be allowed to return to their homes until at least 2pm today after an exclusion zone of 200m was established.
‘I am very grateful to residents for their continued co-operation and patience,’ said Chief Supt Geoff Spicer.
‘Public safety is a priority for us and the exclusion area was set-up as a necessary precaution.
‘We will be carrying out a full and thorough investigation into this incident now the controlled explosions have taken place.’
Many of the residents evacuated were sent to a rest centre set up at a local school.
