A British man has been arrested by police in Thailand in connection with the murder of Hannah Witheridge and David Miller.

Christopher Ware, believed to have been a friend of David’s, has been questioned by authorities and has been asked to remain on the island of Koh Toa, where the two holidaymakers were found murdered, while DNA tests can be carried out.

David, 24, and Hannah, 23 were both found bludgeoned to death on a beach in Thailand on Monday morning.

This combination of handout images created from undated images received from Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office on September 16, 2014 shows British students, Hannah Witheridge (L) and David Miller (R). Thai police on September 16, 2014 ruled out three Myanmar workers in connection with the murder of two young British tourists, as Thailand's military ruler appeared to call into question the "behaviour" of the victims themselves. The bodies of David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, arrived in Bangkok late September 16, 2014 for forensic examination. They were found naked and beaten to death early September 15, 2014 near a beachside bungalow on the island, a diving hot-spot near Koh Phangan in the Gulf of Thailand. The pair were thought to have been murdered with a bloody hoe that was found near their bodies.

The news of the arrested Briton seems to diverge from CCTV footage released by Thai police, showing a shirtless Asian man who they named as one of the ‘prime suspects’ in the attack.

The footage also shows Hannah and David walking hand-in-hand down the beach moments before their brutal murders.

A spokesman for the British Embassy in Bangkok released a statement yesterday saying they had no information to suggest any British national is a suspect.

David was described by friend Sean McAnna as ‘the most amazing guy you could ever meet’.
