The New York-based Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang floated a barge packed with stuffed animals around Shanghai today, The Wall Street Journal reports, in a piece meant to draw attention to the city’s polluted waters (as well as a few of the artist’s local shows.) His ark project coincides with last week’s discovery of more than 3,300 dead pigs in a river that leads to Shanghai.

Mr. Cai, best known for his work with fireworks, told The Journal that the stuffed animals’ “not being dead leaves possibilities and space for imagination.” Later this month Mr. Cai will produce a gunpowder drawing called The Bund Without Us that imagines Shanghai without human influence.
