A late night Twitter conversation between William Shatner and Nasa has got Star Trek fans all excited.

When the original captain Kirk decided to send the US space agency a message on Saturday no-one could have imagined how great its response would be.

‘How is @NASA doing today?,’ he wrote.

The agency clearly realised the enormity of having a Star Trek legend tweet it and decided to have some fun with its response.

‘Good day, Captain. #ISS (International Space Station) is in standard orbit and Commander Swanson has the conn,’ Nasa replied in typical Star Trek fashion.

It added: ‘Hope you’re having a great weekend!’

Seemingly lost for words after receiving such a great comeback, Shatner simply tweeted: ‘Very good news!’

Twitter user Geek Girl Review loved the online conversation and wrote: ‘Twitter exchange between NASA and William Shatner is awesome .’
