A man has been shot dead and another injured after they were targeted while sitting in a car in Sheffield city centre.

The men, both 22, were shot in Derek Dooley Way at around 10.15pm yesterday, South Yorkshire Police confirmed.

They were taken to hospital but the passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead.

The driver remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Two lanes of the Sheffield Parkway into the city centre were closed as police continued their inquiries.

Both of the victims are from the Sheffield area. No-one has been arrested.

Officers have urged anyone with information to contact police or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
