Just in case you needed another reason to believe in the inefficiency of government, a USPS worker has been caught on camera disposing of letters, bills, and checks that were meant for delivery.
An unidentified postal woman, from Bond Hill, Ohio, was caught on camera dumping mail marked for delivery into a dumpster on Wednseday August 6, 2014.
“This is clearly unacceptable behavior that does not reflect the efforts of the thousands of professional, dedicated carriers in our workforce,” USPS spokesman David Van Allen said. “The Postal Service’s (Office of Inspector General) is currently investigating this incident.”
Residents filmed the letter carrier after many in the area had complained about not receiving mail.
“People missing out on bills, missing out on letters, it could be just anything, anything important and necessary you’re missing out on because (a postal worker is) doing stuff like that,” Alicia Carr, a resident who had their mail trashed, said. “It’s crazy.”
The USPS retrieved the disposed mail and says that they believe all letters have now been delivered to the rightful recipients.
According to officials, the postal worker in question has since been suspended and could face federal charges.
