Tatarinov worked at Microsoft for some 13 years, rising to the role of executive vice president for the Microsoft Business Solutions Division. Prior to this he was chief technology officer at BMC.

Tatarinov left Microsoft last summer during an executive reshuffle initiated by Satya Nadella during which Stephen Elop also left.

His extensive experience in providing business-oriented systems was key to choosing him to head up Citrix, as Calderoni explained.

Tatarinov added that he is excited to lead Citrix forward and aims to grow the company as more businesses look to become digital and enable staff to work from any location.

“Across every industry and region, the secure delivery of apps and data is a strategic imperative for organisations of all sizes,” he said.

“I look forward to working alongside Citrix’s leaders, talented employees and dedicated partners around the world to push the boundaries of innovation and create greater value together.”

He also celebrated the news on Twitter.”
