Cortado adds Thinprint and SharePoint access to Corporate Server 7.2 update

Cortado Corporate Server 7.2 Smart Sharing

Cortado has released a new version of its Cortado Corporate Server enterprise mobility platform that makes company documents accessible on mobile devices, adding the ability to access SharePoint information, integration with Cortado’s Thinprint cloud printing service, and other features.

Available immediately, Cortado Corporate Server 7.2 is designed to enable secure access to corporate documents from mobile clients. It is chiefly aimed at Apple iPad and Samsung’s Android-based tablet devices, but HTML5 client software enables access from BlackBerry devices, Windows PCs and Macs.

The new release adds more productivity features, including enhanced printing and better support for securely sharing documents for collaboration.

“The goal with 7.2 is to enable access to apps and data securely without data getting out,” David Moroney, Cortado’s sales manager for Northern Europe and Africa, told V3.

To this end, the new version adds a feature called Smart Sharing, which integrates with Microsoft Exchange to allow documents to be sent as an email attachment. It also supports sharing as a link, and enables a copy of a document to be created in the cloud, to enable sharing with a recipient outside the organisation without having to give them access to the corporate network.

Version 7.2 integrates with Cortado’s Thinprint service, enabling network printing for any application, including native iOS printing, for the first time.

Also in this version, users can now access SharePoint servers the same way as any network drive, although this is not yet supported for Android users, according to Moroney.

Cortado has also added Smart Filing, which adds support for version control, a key capability in an environment where multiple users may be able to update documents at the same time.

“From any managed app, if you make changes to a document, the server preserves a copy, and you can get back to any previous version of the document,” explained Moroney.

A managed app is any application, such as Pages for the iPad, which has been provisioned by the administrator from Cortado Corporate Server, and has the access rights to edit documents downloaded locally to the device.

With version 7.2, a new capability called Fast Enrolment enables the administrator to create a generic user profile with default access rules and printer connections. Provisioning users is also made easier by enabling the administrator to scan a QR code directly from their monitor with the device being enrolled, which provides a link to install the mobile device management (MDM) profile and the Cortado Client.

Cortado Corporate Server 7.2 runs on Windows Server 2008 R2 or above, and also requires an Exchange server, either on-premise or in the cloud. Licensing is €105 (£85) per user, including updates and 12 months’ support.
