A romantic meal for two turned into a nightmare for one man who spat out a particularly crunchy chunk of creamed spinach – and found it was a cockroach.

Danny Grace, 33, cooked up two steaks with all the trimmings for himself and his wife Corinne after buying the meals from his local branch of M&S in Islington, north London.

But he ended up vomiting on the floor after accidentally biting into a large cockroach disguised in a portion of creamed spinach.

‘It’s outrageous that’s all the compensation I’ve been given,’ he said.

‘I’ve given the voucher away because I never want to shop there again.’

He now says he has become obsessive about his food, refusing to eat outside and watching his wife while she cooks so he can make sure no insects have crawled in.

‘We were sorry to hear about Mr Grace’s complaint,’ said a M&S spokesman.

‘Quality is extremely important to us and we’ve been working with our supplier to investigate what happened.

‘Our investigation has found it was not a cockroach and we have kept Mr Grace updated with our findings, as well as sending him a goodwill gesture along with our apologies.’
