Dell unveils Latitude 13 laptop-tablet hybrid to rival Surface Pro 3

Dell has unveiled a raft of new hardware including new Latitude laptops and a Chromebox for meetings video-conferencing unit.

The most notable new device from Dell is the Latitude 13 7000 Series 2-in-1 (above) which is a keyboard-laptop hybrid akin to the Surface Pro 3. It has a 13.3in display and backlit keyboard.

Dell claims the ability to use it as either a tablet or laptop is ideal for workers who are always on the go. The Latitude 13 7000 Series 2-in-1 will be available in mid-October in the UK, although no pricing information was made available.

Another new device added to the firm’s rugged range is the aptly named Latitude 14 Rugged (pictured below).

Dell said the device is built for the toughest conditions, with temperature control technology so it can survive both extreme heat and cold. Its 14in screen is also designed to be readable in ourdoor conditions, ranging from sunlight to low light.

The firm has also unveiled two new workstation units, the OptiPlex 9020 Micro and the OptiPlex 3020 Micro. Dell said the new units are ideal for users after a desktop level of computing performance in a limited space environment. The devices are on sale now starting from £269.

Dell Chromebox for meetingFinally Dell also showed off two new Chrome-powered devices. The first is the Dell Chromebox for Meetings (pictured) to help users join video calls on the go. Powered by Intel 4th generation processors, the device also has a 1080p webcam, a speaker phone and remote control.

The second device is the Dell Chromebox desktop hardware unit that Dell said would suit locations such as schools, kiosks and home or remote offices. The unit has a raft of functions including multiple ports including HDMI, the latest Intel processors, and the ability to output 4K Ultra HD resolution and display to dual monitors.

Pricing was not made available but Dell said the Chromebox for meetings and Dell Chromebox will be available in the UK later this year.
