Facebook has dealt with a wide array of controversy over the years regarding its image guidelines.

Most recently, it was criticised for removing an image of a lesbian couple kissing, after one user branded it ‘disgusting.’

But perhaps the most frequently discussed issue regarding images relates to photos of mothers breastfeeding, which the site originally deemed ‘obscene content.’

That was until three weeks ago, when Facebook changed its guidelines. In the site’s help section, the note on breastfeeding now reads:

‘Yes. We agree that breastfeeding is natural and beautiful and we’re glad to know that it’s important for mothers to share their experiences with others on Facebook. The vast majority of these photos are compliant with our policies.’

Facebook stresses that almost all of the images they review are brought to its attention by Facebook users.
