Google Search services stutter in the UK

Google Search went down on Friday morning

Google’s Search service has been down this morning following an incident that the company is yet to comment on.

Google Searchers were greeted with a 500 error message on Friday morning. Twitter has been flushed with comments on the incident, and V3 reporters also experienced the problem.

We asked Google for comment or an explanation, but received no response at the time of publication. This is the second time in a week that its users have lost services, as the email client went down for a period of around half an hour on Thursday.

Today’s problem leads searchers to an error message. “500. That’s an error. The server encountered an error and could not complete your request,” said the Google error page. “If the problem persists, please report your problem and mention this error message and the query that caused it. That’s all we know.”

Users have been quick to comment on the flaw, that so far Google has not issued a statement on. Some recommended a switch to rivals such as Bing.

Link testing sites are reporting problems, but most are reliant on information from users. Is It Down Right Now?, for example, links people to its comment section.

According to Google’s Apps service status page everything else is in fine order. Reports suggest that the downtime, which affected Google’s sparse front page is over, but some Twitter users claimed that they were experiencing problems into lunchtime.

We will update this report when and if Google offers an explanation for the problems.
