Grumpy Cat finds her voice in upcoming movie (Wired UK)

Aubrey Plaza will lend her voice to the
internet’s favourite feline

Proving that there really is a Santa Claus, and he’s addicted to
the internet, a Grumpy
movie is going ahead, and actress Aubrey Plaza is
lending her voice to the fan favourite feline. No, we’re not making
this up.

Weirdly, this is actually one of two movies in the
works for the moody kitty (real name: Tardar Sauce), with the
Plaza-starring one a TV film for American network Lifetime. It’s a
Christmas-set ode to…. well, probably grumpiness, called
Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, with the eponymous cat
overlooked in a pet shop until she meets 12-year old Chrystal.

Plaza is best known for her role as April Ludgate on Parks
and Recreation
, though has appeared in films including
Scott Pilgrim vs the World and Safety Not
. She’s also no stranger to voice acting, having
appeared in the English dub of the Studio Ghibli movie From Up on
Poppy Hill
and as Eska in the brilliant The Legend
of Korra

The good news is that there’s a chance the Grumpy Cat xmas movie
might not be utterly terrible. The film is written by Tim
and Jeff
, both bringing some creative chops from Spongebob
(which is far funnier than it has right to be).
Unfortunately, Hill also directed the live action Garfield: A
Tale of Two Kitties
and Alvin and the Chipmunks, so
at this point quality is anyone’s guess.

As for that other Grumpy Cat film? That’s a full
cinematic effort being produced by Todd Garner,
responsible for such cinematic atrocities as Adam Sandler’s
Jack And Jill, Kevin James’ Paul Blart: Mall Cop
(and, distressingly, its sequel), and
Knight and Day, the Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz action movie
that barely elevated itself above mediocrity. In short, abandon all
hope, ye who enter any cinema showing the Grumpy Cat feature film.
Then again, in the likely words of Grumpy Cat herself? You saw a
bad movie? Good.
