Harrogate crowned happiest place in Britain for third year running

Harrogate has been named the happiest place in Britain to live for the third year in a row.

An annual survey by property website Rightmove asked more than 24,000 people UK-wide questions such as how proud they felt of their home, how satisfied they were with its decor, how safe they felt in their community and how friendly their neighbours were.

For the third year running, Harrogate was ranked first overall. It came out top for pride in where your live, happiness with the area’s upkeep and safety in the community.

‘Harrogate is a fantastic part of the world in which to live,’ said Richard Cooper, leader of Harrogate Borough Council.

‘We are surrounded by some of the UK’s most beautiful scenery, have fantastic shopping, a wide variety of restaurants and cafes, and great entertainment and leisure opportunities – including some unique experiences such as the elegant Turkish Baths.’

‘As a floral town, we are also extremely lucky to have a significant number of parks and gardens in the immediate vicinity – which are a joy to discover.’

The North Yorkshire spa town is famous for its tea rooms and grand hotels.

It’s also known for excellent schools and transport links.

The top five happiest places included York and Chester. Shrewsbury came second and Ipswich was ranked third. The happiest place to live within Scotland was Inverness, and in Wales it was Llandrindod Wells.

In London, Richmond was named the happiest place to live.
