Hear The Tale Of Scratching Fanny – The World’s First Media Circus

English Credulity or the Invisible Ghost 1762, artist unknown.

Ever heard of Scratching Fanny AKA the Ghost of Cock Lane?

It’s a tale of Georgian ghostly goings on, a possessed child, an alleged poisoning, the man behind the English dictionary, and the world’s first media circus.

Sounds good, doesn’t it? But what you really need to explain the whole thing — and shed new light on the matter — is an expert or two. An expert or two like Roger Clarke, author of A Natural History of Ghosts, and Scott Wood of the London Fortean Society.

Well, this is weird, because these very two men are in conversation about Scratching Fanny, in The Pipeline pub in east London next week. How spooky is THAT?

The Cock Lane Ghost: A London Ghost Story takes place at The Pipeline, 94 Middlesex Street E1 7EZ. on 30 June, 7.45pm. £4/£2 concessions (advance tickets).
