A man who was left with severe facial burns has released these images to try and track down his attackers.

The shocking pictures show the results of having a corrosive liquid thrown in Wayne Ingold’s face when he went to collect his post in a communal area of his flats.

The 56-year-old was involved in a brief exchange before the liquid was thrown at him, inflicting severe injuries to his hands and face.

Essex Police believe the incident, which happened in Bramble Road, Witham, at about 10.45am on August 8, was a case of mistaken identity.

The photographs were taken while he was receiving hospital treatment and show burns to his face and upper body.

Detective Constable Alan Lewis said: ‘The photographs clearly show how Wayne suffered appalling injuries in this incident.

‘He has asked us to release them to show what these people are capable of causing and how they have to be taken off the streets and brought to justice.

‘It is believed that this was a case of mistaken identity and that extensive investigations have shown that there is no evidence that anyone in the area was the intended victim in this crime.’

The force has released two e-fit images of men they would like to speak to about the crime.
Inquiries have been widened to London in a bid to trace them.

They drove a blue Vauxhall Signum or another hatchback vehicle.
