HTC adds One Mini 2 on Android KitKat to smartphone line-up

HTC has unveiled another addition to its smartphone portfolio, the One Mini 2, which sits in the shadow of its flagship sibling, the HTC One M8.

However, with a screen size of 4.5in and measurements of 137.4x65x10.6mm the device is not exactly ‘mini’, as the One M8 screen is only half an inch larger at 5in.

Its specs, though, are clearly lower grade than the One M8, as it comes with a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM and only 16GB of built-in storage. However, it has an microSD card slot, so storage can be expanded with an additional 128GB.

The HTC One Mini 2 will run Android 4.4 KitKat with the latest version of HTC’s Sense user interface including HTC Blinkfeed and HTC Zoe. It also has a sizeable 13MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP camera on the front.

The HTC One Mini 2 sports the same design as the HTC One M8, and will be made available in the same grey, silver and gold flavours.

Pricing has not yet been unveiled, but given the One M8 costs around £550, it is likely to be at least £100 cheaper. The HTC One Mini unveiled last year was £370 indicating that the latest version could be around a similar price point.

HTC chief executive Peter Chou said the device would help the company to regain its former glory in the smartphone market.

“The latest member of the award-winning HTC One family distills the advanced features that have earned it global acclaim into an elegant, compact handset,” he said.

“It’s the perfect choice for those who love the iconic design of the HTC One M8 yet want something more compact.”
