Hyperoptic enters business market with 1Gbps broadband service

Super-speed broadband provider Hyperoptic has officially entered the business market, offering services with speeds as high as 1Gbps.

Hyperoptic has been targeting consumer deployments since launching several years ago, having been founded by the former owners of the BE broadband brand to bring fibre services to residential buildings, usually multiple-dwelling units.

Now, in response to growing demand from businesses for faster services, the company is launching three offerings: a 20Mbps download, 1Mbps upload service; a 100Mbps download and upload service; and a 1Gbps upload and download service.

Pricing depends on length of contract, but as a guide Hyperoptic quotes £40 a month for the 20Mbps service over three years, £80 a month for the 100Mbps service over three years, and £250 a month for the 1Gbps service over three years.

Darren Shenkin, the business development director at Hyperoptic, told V3 the 20Mbps/1Mbps service was aimed at firms that don’t need to send a lot of big files, but just want a solid, reliable internet connection.

However, the other two services are aimed at more data-heavy industries, such as media production companies that have to send huge files to clients and partners, and need them to be delivered as quickly as possible.

“For firms that have to send large files, these services are what they need. People don’t put stuff on DVDs or hard drives anymore, it’s all stored in the cloud, so they need to be able to transfer files quickly,” he said.

Businesses can receive services as either a dedicated lease line, a shared lease line where they share services with up to 15 other firms in a building, or as a standard business broadband offering that is supplied within a building to as many firms that request a connection.

One firm already using the business service is wedding photo and video firm Filmatography. Studio coordinator Andrew Willard described Hyperoptic’s service as exceptional. “Upload times have decreased dramatically saving us time. We are pleased to recommend their services to other businesses,” he said.

Services will be available in Greater London, Cardiff, Bristol, Reading, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle and Nottingham.
