Ian Wright’s MBE was among treasured memorabilia stolen after his wife and two young girls were burgled at knifepoint.

The former England footballer caught the first plane back to London following their ordeal, where the four assailants threatened ‘to cut off the kids’ fingers’ if they didn’t get access to the safe.

He told reporters: ‘All I want to say is that my missus, my girls, everyone’s safe. The police are trying to get on doing what they are doing.’

‘They threatened to cut her fingers off and even threatened to do the same to the children, who were both upstairs and in their bedrooms,’ he added, in an interview with the Sun.

Wright, who received the MBE in 2000 for services to football, also had a rare watch from former team-mate Dennis Bergkamp and his Arsenal double-winning watch from the club stolen.

The 50-year-old pundit refused to say whether he planned to fly back and continue working for ITV.

Immediately after learning of the raid, he had tweeted: ‘You won’t get away with it.’

Next-door neighbour, Marianne Collinge, said: ‘I suppose they could be a bit of a target because they do have beautiful cars. But they are very unpretentious people. They are one of us and I’m terribly sorry for them, it’s awful.’

Police are looking for four men aged between 18 and 25. No arrests have been made.
