Like a bit of T-Swifty or Ed Sheeran? Then you’re an ’empathiser’.

That means you’re in tune with your emotions and high in, well, empathy, according to research by the University of Cambridge.

Empathisers prefer mellow music and genres like adult contemporary, soft rock and R&B/soul.

On the flip-side, if your taste in music leans more towards AC/DC then you’re a ‘systemiser’.

That means you’re the analytical type and prefer intense music including punk and heavy metal.

Researchers asked 4,000 people to take part in a personality quiz via a Facebook app.

They were asked to listen to 50 different songs covering a variety of genres.

David Greenberg, a Ph.D. candidate at Cambridge and the study’s lead author, told The Huffington Post: ‘Empathisers, who have a drive to understand the thoughts and feelings of others, preferred music… which featured low energy, negative emotions (such as sadness) and emotional depth.

‘On the other hand, systemisers, who have a drive to understand and analyze the patterns that underpin the world, preferred music… which not only features high energy and positive emotions.’
