A council removed an elderly woman who suffers from severe dementia from her home while her carer son was out.

Social services staff at Milton Keynes Council took the 81-year-old away and put her in a care home.

It took the son 19 days to get the local authority to tell him where staff had taken his mother.

The move was sparked by initial thoughts that she may have been abused by her son, who lived with her. But their own inquiries and a subsequent police investigation found no evidence.

District Judge Paul Mort slammed the council’s decision and labelled its treatment of the woman ‘woefully inadequate’.

The council has agreed to apologise to the woman and her son.
