A thirsty escaped con was recaptured by police while he relaxed with a pint in a upmarket Bristol pub.

Kevin Brown, 54, had been on the lamb since April 10 from the minimum security prison HMP Ford in Sussex and was apprehended on 14 June.

The escaped con had chosen the historic and leafy Clifton area of Bristol for his tipple.

A Sussex Police spokesman stated: ‘Avon and Somerset Police made the arrest at a public house in the Clifton area of the city at about 6pm on Saturday.’

HMP Ford announced recently they currently have 89 escaped prisoners, a few of whom have been at large for years.

Only last week, a convicted murder, Robert Donovan, had been apprehended four years after walking out of the category D prison.

Brown had been serving a life sentence after being convicted of conspiracy to rob and firearms offences in 2007, police said.

He is due to appear at a hearing at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on June 16.
