Kingdom Hearts trailer teases long-awaited third game (Wired UK)

This year’s E3 hasn’t even started yet but already publishers
are trickling out information on their upcoming releases.
Square Enix is the latest to spurt their info all over your
internet, with a new trailer
teasing gamers with two new Kingdom Hearts
titles.

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.5 ReMIX – E3 TrailerKingdom Hearts

Kingdom Hearts II.5 Remix, besides affirming the
inflexibility of Roman numerals for anything other than whole
numbers, is an upgrade of the original Kingdom Hearts II,
released on PlayStation 2 in 2002. Remix packs in both the
enhanced Japanese version of the core game, which includes bonus
material and story content not included in the western release, and
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix, similarly
expanded from the 2010 PSP games. Also included are cutscenes from
the Nintendo DS title Kingdom Hearts: ReCoded, remastered
in high definition and edited into a movie.

More interesting to fans will be the last 40 seconds of the
trailer though, hinting at more information on the long awaited –
and rumoured to be final — chapter in the series, Kingdom
Hearts III
. It won’t mean much to anyone not steeped in the
lore of the series, but for those who know what a Heartless or
Organisation XIII is, talk of the Keyblade Wars and a generation of
Lost Masters offers scintillating hints at what the game has in
store.

The Kingdom Hearts series is an action-RPG hybrid
starring teen hero Sora and team mates including Donald Duck and
Goofy travelling between parallel worlds, meeting characters from
Disney movies and Final Fantasy games. It’s the sort of
crossover that shouldn’t really work but somehow it does. After
skipping an entire console generation, Kingdom Hearts III
was confirmed as being in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox
One at E3 2013, though series producer Tetsuya Nomura later said he
felt that reveal came too early. Could this year’s event be the time to reveal
more on the game?

Kingdom Hearts II.5 Remix is released on PlayStation 3
on 5 December.
