A law graduate was brutally attacked and left with a fractured eye socket after a man punched her simply because he didn’t like her clothes.

Eleanor Jones was out with a friend in Liverpool city centre on Saturday when the man approached her and started laughing at her black lace dress and stiletto heels.

Calling her a ‘mess’, the man then started brutally punching her to the floor, despite her friend trying to restrain him, leaving her needing urgent medical care.

The 22-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent said: ‘I was just waiting for a taxi home with my friend and there were three men standing on the corner.

‘They were all being a bit loud, but there was one in particular who seemed to take a disliking to us.

‘He started picking on my friend. I told him to stop and he turned on me. He started taking the mick out of my outfit.’

She added that he kept saying to her ‘you think you are better than me’ and got really close.

‘I was so confused. I’d never seen him before in my life but he just seemed to take a disliking to me. I was terrified.’

‘It all happened so quickly. There were a few passers-by who tried to help me out and I was covering my eye. I was in shock.’

The commercial law graduate was taken to Royal Liverpool Hospital where doctors told her she had a fractured eye socket.

Her friend managed to get a photo of the attacker as he ran away and the photo has since been shared on social media in an attempt to track him down.

Eleanor, who said she will press charges, was left unable to drive and had to take time off work following the attack due to her eye still bleeding on the inside.

Merseyside Police are appealing for people to contact them with any information about the incident.

Detective Inspector Phil Mahon from Merseyside Police called the attack ‘completely unprovoked’ and said they are ‘determined to bring the person responsible to justice.’
