ZOINKS! Assault victim Les Brown was saved from a severe beating… thanks to the padding in his Scooby Doo onesie.

The 29-year-old was grateful he decided to dress as the favourite TV cartoon character for a pub crawl with pals after his original costume idea from a fancy dress store fell though.

He was attacked by a woman while out drinking with friends and says the novelty suit’s ample padding saved him from a severe beating.

‘She was punching me in the head and my Scooby Doo outfit protected me from getting hurt more,’ he said.

‘I’m glad I wore the Scooby Doo onesie. It had a biggish head, which probably cushioned the punches.’

Mr Brown was celebrating a friend’s birthday with two pals, dressed as Robin Hood and Batman, when he came under attack at a bar in Whitby, Yorkshire, a court heard.

Sharron Hutchinson, 40, admitted an assault charge at Scarborough magistrates’ court last week and was fined for the attack, which happened in March.

Her solicitor, Shaun Greenan, told magistrates it was ‘bizarre and significant’ that Mr Brown had been wearing the onesie, as it protected him from more serious harm.

After the case, an A&E consultant said fancy dress outfits can make for ‘extremely absorbent protection’.

‘My advice, however, would be to avoid getting into fights,’ he added.
