It’s the capital of England and one of the biggest cities in the world – but London now has another claim to fame.

London is now the selfie capital of the world, according to new social media analysis.

Boasting sights such as the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace, it’s perhaps not surprising that 14% of selfies were found to be taken in the capital.

New York was second in the list, with Times Square and the Statue of Liberty proving the most popular locations for selfies.

A total of 6.3 million social media messages from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and elsewhere were analysed by

Amsterdam came third, with Barcelona, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Sydney, Istanbul, and Athens rounding out the top 10.

And the most popular backdrop for selfies overall?

The Colosseum in Rome.
