London Brewery Makes Beer ‘Flavoured With Roald Dahl’s Writing Chair’

Mmm, children’s author flavoured beer.

We’ve seen some inventive culinary takes on Roald Dahl — from chocolate fountains to lickable wallpaper — but a new beer looks set to win title of strangest recipe yet.

Mr Twit’s Odious Ale — brewed by Dalston’s 40ft Brewery and purveyors of cosmic comestibles, Bompas & Parr — has a unique new ingredient, namely Roald Dahl’s writing chair.

No, dear readers, your peepers are not deceiving you. In a move that would make Heston Blumenthal think twice, a swab was taken from the children’s writer’s chair at The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre (see image above), recovering a wild yeast, then added to the beer.

Wash down your bristling bird pie with the beer at a Twits dinner party.

The brew — a ‘grätzen’, which is highly carbonated and described as ‘Polish champagne’ — debuts at a Twits-inspired dinner party in Waterloo Vaults next month, featuring bird pie, ‘potentially perilous’ pudding and heaps of Dahl-like lunacy.

Will Mr Twit’s Odious Ale prove to be a marvellous medicine or a fantastic failure? We can’t wait to try it. Or maybe we can.

Get your gob round Mr Twit’s Odious Ale at Dinner at the Twits at Waterloo Vaults from 4 September-30 October. Tickets £76.50-£111.50. The team are also hoping to release the beer separately, but can’t yet confirm if they’re doing so.
