Eight pupils at a Chinese primary school have been injured after they were slashed by a man wielding a kitchen knife in an apparently motiveless attack.
Horrifying images taken from CCTV footage of the incident show the attacker chasing young children around a playground holding what looks to be a meat cleaver.
The local government of Macheng city, Hubei province, said the man – 35-year-old Chen Zuihang – was arrested after the attack.
The children, who are believed to be aged between six and eight years old, were being treated at a local hospital, according to a police statement.
This is not the first attack on nurseries and schools in China.
Last month in Ankang, eight men armed with knives slashed students on their way home, killing one and injuring two and last year, a man injured six pupils and a parent with a meat cleaver in Maoming in south China.
