Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have been on a collision course for a long time now. Unfortunately for us fans, the two have never quite come to terms and signed to fight each other. “Pac Man” is an eight-division, ten-time world champion, and “Money” is a ten-time, five-division champ. The two have been constantly linked to facing the other, but often pay and other issues have sullied the hopes of Pacquiao vs Mayweather Jr. According to multiple sources, the fight will happen next year, and probably more than once…..
Fans and pundits have been clamouring for this fight for years now, and with the divisional contenders starting to thin out, it may well be time for Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. Boxing promoter Bob Arum firmly believes this dream fight will become a reality in 2015, and not just once:
“There is a sell-by date, where it becomes (after that) ‘Who cares?’ It has to happen by the first six months of next year,” Arum said to sfchronicle.com, “And if it happens, there should be a provision with a different percentage for the rematch. So that the winner is rewarded for winning the fight. I would love to see these guys fight twice next year.”
Often the purse for the fight is what has gotten in the way, as the two were close to sealing the deal in 2012. Of course the losses against Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez didn’t bode well for the superfight for Pacquiao. Mayweather remains unbeaten at 46-0, but has a tough September rematch against Marcos Maidana to get through first.
Manny Pacquiao’s famed trainer Freddie Roach also chimed in on the situation, stating that he feels Mayweather is past it:
“Everyone would have liked to see the fight have happened earlier,” Roach said, “But it’s still the biggest fight out there, and there is still a huge audience that wants to see it. I think Mayweather is a little shot, and we have a better shot now.”
Pacquiao himself also spoke out, saying that he is still ready to fight “Money” whenever he wants:
“Of course, I want this fight,” Pacquiao said to sfchronicle.com, “People have always been bothering me, ‘When is this fight going to happen?’ … ‘When is this fight going to happen?’ I am ready to fight Floyd anytime.”
It looks like 2015 is the year for Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. to finally transpire…..
