Former co-worker Maria Fowkes, 40, who worked with Becky last year at The Oyster Smack Inn, told the Essex Chronicle: ‘She was such a lovely young girl.

‘We knew her as Izzy at work. She did explain to me why but I can’t remember the exact reason.

‘She had two beautiful children she thought the world of. She wanted to get out of the flat she was in and give her kids a better life.

‘I don’t know anyone who could say anything bad about her. We were both housekeepers and we used to chat away all the time. She was so bubbly and lovely.’

DCI Martin Pasmore, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, is leading the investigation.

He said: ‘This is a very sad and distressing incident where a young woman has lost her life in tragic circumstances. This enquiry has now become a murder investigation.

‘We have arrested a man on suspicion of her murder and will continue to question him today.

‘If anyone does have any information that they think may help us then I would urge them to get in touch with my team.’
