A new amusement park that sends riders plummeting 335ft headfirst towards the ground at 60mph has opened in Florida.

Falcon’s Fury, the latest ride at Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida, is the tallest freestanding drop tower in north America.

The ride seats 32 passengers, who are brought slowly to the top of the tower.

Their seats are then tilted forward 90 degrees – bringing them face-to-face with the ground below – before they are launched downwards at breakneck speed, experiencing an estimated 3.5gs of G-force – more than astronauts experience on take-off.

The braking system then slows the ride, bringing it to a safe stop at the bottom and allowing the (now giddy) passengers to disembark.

Amazingly, it isn’t the tallest drop tower in the world.

That accolade goes to Zumanjaro at Six Flag’s Great Adventure in New Jersey – which stands a dizzying 415 feet tall.
