Bad news, Apple fans – it looks like upcoming Android handsets will outpace your smartphones, at least when it comes to charging up.

Chip maker Qualcomm, which provides the ‘brains’ inside handsets from Sony and Samsung, says that its new technology will charge phones to 80% within 35 minutes.

Quick Charge 3.0 works by requesting a specific voltage level to charge devices faster.

It will work with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617 and 430 processors – set to debut in phones in 2016.

New handsets such as Samsung’s (inevitable) S7 are rumoured to be in line to feature the 820 chip.
