The grainy footage of a clinically depressed mother staggering out of hospital with her infant child in her arms are the last living images of Charlotte Bevan and her six day old baby Zaani.

After their bodies were found in the Avon Gorge in Bristol, the NHS is now launching a probe to look into how the mother was allowed to leave the maternity ward on Tuesday.

Footage from security cameras in St Michael’s Hospital even shows the ill woman walking past three nurses by a vending machine as she left the ward.

A spokesperson for the hospital said that new mothers are allowed to come and go as they please from the maternity ward.
