A mother of two has died after collapsing while taking part in a 5km (three-mile) fun run for charity.

Nikki Herbison, 39, had been raising funds for a community park when she fell unconscious halfway around the course.

Other runners stopped to help Mrs Herbison at the Rushcliffe Park run, near Ruddington, in Nottinghamshire, on Saturday.

She died in hospital the next day with her husband Ade, 43, at her bedside.

Speaking to the Nottingham Post, Mr Herbison said: ‘I am devastated.

‘The whole family have been very supportive and we are just trying to make sure the boys are ok at the moment. We just want them to remember their mum and that she loved them so much.

‘Nikki was wonderful. She was really fun and had such a positive approach to life. She absolutely doted on her boys and would have done anything for them.’

The results of a post-mortem examination are expected later this week.
