A man has been convicted of murdering his mother-in-law after sexually assaulting her so violently that she bled to death.

Mohammed Yassin Yusuf, 32, attacked Amoe Seline Stevens, 64, at their home in north London last October.

Mr Yusuf assaulted Mrs Stevens while his wife was out, only stopping when Ms Stevens’ carer arrived at the home and saw him rushing from the bathroom covered in blood.

Mrs Stevens was taken to hospital, but died hours later from massive internal injuries.

Judge Nicholas Browne sentenced Yusuf to life imprisonment, ordering him to serve a minimum of 25 years behind bars.

‘I sentence you for a horrifying murder,’ he said.

‘The pathologist, who had never seen injuries of such severity in over 35 years of clinical experience, even found her bladder raptured.

‘Your eight-year-old twin sons heard her screams.’

Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh, from the Metropolitan Police, called the attack ‘truly horrendous’.

‘Yusuf chose to use Mrs Stevens’ vulnerabilities for his own sexual benefit and violated her in the most despicable way possible,’ he added.

Detectives believe it was not Mr Yusuf’s first attack on Mrs Stevens.

Mrs Stevens’ family said the ‘family will never recover from the way in which our beloved mother was taken from us’.
