Now you can use “OK Google” voice commands from any app : Tech Digest

Google has announced an upgrade to its Android voice search. Following the latest update to the Google Search app, regardless of what app you’re in you’ll be able to say “OK Google” followed by what you want wherever you are on your phone.

Whilst it doesn’t add voice commands to apps that don’t already support them, it does mean that you don’t have to faff about navigating back to the search app if you want to ask google a question.

Apparently the new functionality will work whenever your screen is switched on or whenever your phone is on charge, as long as you have the latest version of the app (3.5). Then all you have to do is enable it in the Google Settings app.

Whilst this could be useful functionality one implication of this technology is that for it to work it means that your phone will have to be always listening to you when you use it. Whilst this is now commonplace on other devices, like the Xbox One with Kinect, this will no doubt have privacy advocates raising eyebrows.
