Would-be carjackers thwarted by manual gearbox

When these two men next try to rob a car, it won’t be the prospect of a brave owner or arriving police that will make them think twice – it will be the gearbox.

According to Ocala Police, two would-be carjackers were foiled in their bid to steal a Toyota because they didn’t how to drive a car with a manual transmission.

The owner of the 2014 Toyota Corolla told police that he was sitting in his car and talking on his phone when a man tapped a gun on the window and demanded he hand over the keys.

But though the vehicle owner had fled the scene to call police, the gunman and his associate were unable to move the car because they couldn’t drive with a manual gearbox.

Police said the men had gone when they arrived at the scene, but they found the keys in the ignition and the car in exactly the same spot.
