Police grapple with two 8ft boa constrictors in Plashet Park, East Hamon, east London

Police stepped in to catch two 8ft boa constrictors on the loose in east London – with a litter picker and paper bags.

Locals raised the alarm after the reptiles were found near a children’s playground in Plashet Park, East Hamon.

An excitable crowd looked on as officers fished around in a hedge to catch the pair with a litter picker.

Many caught the incident on camera – including a PC who is heard telling someone to step back before saying: ‘Alright, I’m filming this as well. This is the day Jimbo died.’

Newham’s borough commander Tony Nash said: ‘This is certainly the most bizarre call I can think of my officers dealing with during my time in Newham, but it just goes to highlight how the police must be prepared to deal with any event, often putting themselves in danger, to protect the public.’
