PS3-exclusive Godzilla game stomps into Japan (Wired UK)

Godzilla is returning to Japan, with a new PS3-exclusive game
set to see the King of Monsters stomping all over his home turf
later this year.

Japanese gaming site Famitsu broke the
news today
, revealing that the game will be released this
winter, at least in Japan. With its deliberate use of grainy
filters and obscured shots, the teaser
makes it tricky to gauge what gameplay will consist of
(beyond destroying cities and power plants, obvs) but it
does promise to span the monster’s 60 year

Multiple versions of Godzilla look set to be playable, from the
1954 original through to the new American iteration from Gareth
Edwards’ big-budget remake that we thought was a bit good. We’d be surprised if the
much-loathed earlier American take from Roland Emmerich’s 1998
atrocity makes the cut though.

Godzilla has appeared in video games almost as long as the
medium has existed, starting with 1983’s strategy game for the Commodore
. 2002’s Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee for the GameCube
and original Xbox is the high point of interactive monster mayhem,
for our money. If other Toho monsters such as Mothra, Rodan, or
King Ghidorah appear as playable beasts, the new game has a lot to
live up

Advertisement contacted Bandai Namco UK for comment, but as of
right now there are no plans to let Godzilla tear through the UK.
Given the new movie has taken $478m (£281m) at the global box
