Rackspace has expanded its cloud portfolio with an agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to become an authorised reseller of AWS capacity, which it will back by customer support services including managed security and compliance assistance.
Rackspace’s move was announced to coincide with Amazon’s AWS re:Invent user conference in Las Vegas, and follows a similar announcement in July to sell and support Microsoft Azure resources as the firm seeks to expand on its reputation for high-quality technical support and expertise in cloud computing.
Rackspace said that many of its customers had expressed an interest in using AWS for public cloud workloads, but that they “love Rackspace expertise and Fanatical Support, and would like to get it for the workloads that they prefer to run on AWS”.
With that in mind, the firm has spent the past few months working with those customers and with AWS to create a managed services offering for the platform.
As part of the agreement, Rackspace has become an AWS authorised reseller and is joining the AWS Partner Network at the Advanced Consulting Partner level with over 100 certified AWS engineers, the firm said.
Fanatical Support for AWS provides businesses with managed cloud services, tools and applications that allow customers to focus on their core business, all backed by AWS-certified engineers and architects.
It is available in two service levels: Navigator for customers who want to benefit from Rackspace but keep overall operational control; and Aviator for customers who are happy for Rackspace to fully manage their AWS environments.
Both are available for US customers now, but are still in beta in Europe and other regions.
In addition, Rackspace is offering Managed Security for AWS, which provides customers with host- and network-level threat detection on their infrastructure with security logging and analysis from Rackspace’s security operations centre.
Rackspace is also offering Compliance Assistance for AWS to help customers with security compliance requirements for the Payment Card Industry and others, plus Managed Cloud for Adobe Experience Manager to support customers operating Adobe’s digital marketing platform on AWS.
