Cat lover J. T. pledged his allegiance to Rice after they wrote to his cat (Picture: @johngranato)
A Texas college came up with a novel way to get a high school American football player to commit to them – they wrote to his cat.
Star quarterback J. T. Granato, from Houston, Texas, was being courted by a number of colleges after leading his high school team to an unbeaten season.
But only one of those colleges – Rice University – worked out how to get him to choose them, according to the Houston Chronicle.
How? They wrote to his cat, of course.
Billy Lynch, part of the football staff at Rice, sent a letter to the feline, who is named White Sox, asking for help.
‘As you know we’re trying to convince J.T. Rice is the place for him,’ read the letter.
‘I know you’d like to keep him close so he can feed you and change the litter box. Please help us to get him to choose us. Paw me if you have any questions.’
Rice’s unusual strategy seems to have paid off as J.T. agreed to join Rice last week.
J. T.’s father John tweeted the news:
