Samsung launches Galaxy-only app store with perks (Wired UK)

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Samsung has announced the launch of a brand new app store named
Samsung Galaxy Apps, which offers — you guessed it — hundreds
of apps that are exclusively available to Samsung Galaxy device

Those who already own a Samsung device  might be confused
by this announcement — doesn’t Samsung already have its own app
store? Yes, yes it does. But that was called Samsung Apps and this
is called Samsung Galaxy Apps. See the distinction?

Samsung promises that this new app store will feature apps that
will allow for “greater customisation” of your phone or tablet and
will offer various promotions and discounts. We’ll acknowledge that
Samsung is pretty good at delivering on these promises — when the
Galaxy S5 went on sale a few months ago, everyone who bought it got
a free Deezer subscription through the company’s dedicated

The store’s interface will offer three primary app categories:
Best Picks, Top and For Galaxy. It is this last section that is
likely to offer most value to Galaxy owners, as this will be where
premium apps exclusive to those who have purchased a Samsung device
will be found. There will also be the best apps that have been
developed specifically for Galaxy devices and apps that have been
created using Samsung’s own SDKs. These will likely appeal to those
with Galaxy Note devices in particular, as there is a whole section
dedicated to apps that have been designed to work with Samsung’s
stylus, the S Pen.

The Samsung Galaxy Apps store will be available today to anyone
with a compatible device (Samsung says there are 130 million of
them) in any of the 161 countries where Samsung operates.
