Ben Whine is the new associate director of Long Island City’s SculptureCenter. Whine comes to the kunsthalle from the Guggenheim, where he was director of individual development, membership and annual fund. His new position was previously held by Frederick Janka, who moved on became development director at the MCA Santa Barbara earlier this year.

“Ben’s broad museum experience and his network of connections here in New York and abroad will be invaluable as we continue to deepen the impact of our program,” SculptureCenter’s director, Mary Ceruti, said in a press release. “His energy and ideas will help strengthen our reputation as a place that offers artists an unparalleled opportunity for experimentation and that exposes audiences to a provocative and exciting program of exhibitions and events.”

Before coming to the Guggenheim, Whine served as associate director of development for membership at the New Museum and patrons manager at Tate.

SculptureCenter’s recent batch of shows just closed on Monday. In October they’ll reopen in their newly renovated and expanded space with “Puddle, pothole, portal,” a group show organized by the museum’s curator, Ruba Katrib, and artist Camille Henrot.
