Secret Cinema takes on The Empire Strikes Back (Wired UK)

Secret Cinema

Dig out your toy lightsabers — Secret Cinema is
embarking on yet another epic project that will feed on the
nostalgia of Londoners. This summer’s event looks to be one of its
most otherworldly yet, as Secret Cinema transports visitors into
the realms of the Galactic Empire for screenings of The Empire
Strikes Back
.

The second film in the original Star Wars trilogy, and
the fifth film in the total existing chronology, The Empire
Strikes Back
is considered the most critically acclaimed of
the series. Like other Secret Cinema events, we can expect an
enormous set filled with recognisable characters, activities and
clever references to the cult film. There’s no word yet on whether
ticket holders will be given the opportunity to guide the
Millennium Falcon through an asteroid field, but we live in
hope.

The screenings will take place in a secret London location from
4 June 2015 until 2 August — although dates are often extended
depending on ticket sales. Secret Cinema says it will be “gathering
those that believe in the Force by reinstating the importance of
romance, adventure and mystery in this high-speed world”.

Tickets are
set to go on sale on Wednesday 18 March from 1pm GMT. If you want
to nab yourselves some you better be quick, as Secret Cinema
tickets tend to sell out in a flash, especially for iconic and
popular movies.

Over on Secret Cinema’s Facebook
page
, a couple of jokers are suggesting that people would be
better off buying tickets for the end of the run, due to setbacks
that occurred during last year’s screenings of Back to the Future. The company had failed to get health
and safety clearance for its enormous set, and as such, screenings
were delayed by two weeks.

Hopefully the organisation, which is well known among Londoners
for its immersive cinema experiences, will not be beset by similar
problems this year. With the wisdom of Yoda and the power of the
Force at its fingertips, Secret Cinema could potentially make
The Empire Strikes Back into its most thrilling event
yet.
