Nutrient-packed meal substitute Soylent is back, and this time in convenience-food form.
Soylent 2.0 is a ready-to-drink version of the formula that will famously deliver all the vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates and proteins you need in one neat, easily digestible package. The benefit of having the potion ready-bottled is clear; it isn’t always convenient for those that rely on the product routinely to have to mix up Soylent sachets whenever they need a meal.
“It has been an exciting year for the Soylent team, and thanks to my fantastic co-founders and colleagues we have built the foundations of a strong business,” said Rob Rhinehart, Soylent co-founder and CEO.
“Soylent 2.0 is just the beginning of our continued expansion as we endeavour to improve the capability and efficiency of our industry through research and development, toward a future where food is abundant and its production is transparent.”
The source of protein in Soylent comes from soy (clue’s in the name with this one), which means it’s not only healthy and low GI, but suitable for vegans. The substance isn’t just designed to appeal to the health conscious and the time poor, however. It is also environmentally friendly, packaged as it is in a recyclable bottle and with around half of its fat energy reportedly coming from farm-free algae sources. Still not licking your lips?
Soylent 2.0 also has an unrefrigerated shelf life of a year, meaning you could store a whole bunch of ready-to-drink meals in your garden shed, nuclear bunker or panic room and know that it’ll be safe and healthy to consume.
Soylent 2.0 is available for pre-order now in the US and Canada and shipments will begin 15 October. New subscribers can get hold of a 12-pack of the drinks for $29 (£18.60).
