Planning a party is hard work. You’ve got to decide who to invite and who to leave out, how much booze you should buy and who’s going to clean up when it’s all over. On the plus side, though, you no longer have to worry about the music — Spotify’s got it sorted for you.
From today onwards, Spotify will include ‘Party’ mode, a mobile-only feature that the company claims takes the hassle out of party playlists. It works by beat-matching tracks so playlists are consistent and smooth. It also lets users create playlists by mood and genre.
No more desperate scrabble to the aux cord to turn off a badly picked song — Party has a special ‘mood tuner’ to handle transitions between songs or adjust the pace of playlists accordingly as your party speeds up or slows down.
The new feature follows Spotify Running — which selects a playlist based on the rhythm and pace of someone’s run — and Discover Weekly, which provides users with a curated playlist every week.
The first pre-mixed playlist has been created by producer Diplo, but user-generated playlists are designed to produce an endless stream of music. The feature will be immediately available for Android and iOS — just in time for your Christmas party.
